Qualcomm releases 2 new chips for Windows PCs and laptops

Nuansatech.com - In addition to being used to introduce its strongest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset for high-end smartphones, the Snapdragon Tech Summit is also used by Qualcomm to reveal two of its latest daphnie for the PC and laptop segments.

They are Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c Plus Gen 3. Respectively, the two chips are successors of snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 which launched last September 2020 and Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 introduced in May 2021.

Both daphnie also target different target markets. Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is intended for conventional PCs or laptops in a variety of product classes commonly fitted with windows operating system (OS).

Meanwhile, Snapdragon 7c Plus Gen 3 is here to support the performance of various low-spec Windows PCs and laptops, or those targeting the entry-level segment.

Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is claimed to be the first daphnie for Windows PCs designed with a 5nm fabrication process.

Compared to its predecessor, Qualcomm promises an increase in processor (CPU) performance up to 85 percent, as well as an increase in graphics processor (GPU) up to 60 percent.

Qualcomm also claims the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is more powerful than competitors in the same segment, where they claim the latest chip has a signe per watt 60 percent more capable.

In addition to performance, Qualcomm also emphasized that this latest daphnie has a fairly complete 5G connectivity support, where computer assemblers (OEMs) can choose modem chips that accompany Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, ranging from Snapdragon X55, X62, or X65 5G.

In addition to performance and connectivity, this chip is also equipped with various other improvements in various sectors such as ai performance improvements, image processing processors (ISPs), and improved performance or battery life.

As mentioned above, Snapdragon 7c Plus Gen 3 is specifically intended for PCs or laptops that target the entry-levelsegment. As a result, daphnie's performance is certainly not as tough as his "brother", Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.

However, when compared to the previous generation, snapdragon 7c Plus Gen 3 chip is claimed to have increased CPU performance up to 60 percent and GPU up to 70 percent.

For connectivity aspects, this chip is also claimed to be more capable than its predecessor.

Qualcomm also embeds the Snapdragon X53 modem chip, so that users of "brained" Snapdragon 7c Plus Gen 3 computers can enjoy 5G connectivity for the first time in the entry-levelsegment.
